Re: Sample News Post In Home Page
I have to say Rin, I really like your profile pic. ^_^ Where's that from?
It's from Strike Witches. Her name is Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Okay, couple of problems.
1. For some reason, I am unable to view links posted in this forum, even those I've posted myself. In place of the link, I see the following message: "You must be registered to view this link." Needless to say, I am already registered and logged in. Note that this doesn't seem to affect URLs posted to the forum, only formatted links.
2. I am unable to change or delete my avatar (and possibly make other changes to my profile). When I try, I get an error message saying that "Your Gender is required on this site." Putting in my gender would probably fix it, but really, it shouldn't be a requirement in the first place.
3. Something is stretching the forum home page horizontally. Other parts of the site are fine as far as I can see, it's only the forum home page that's affected. Update: Apparently it's only happening in Chrome and Safari. The site looks fine in Firefox 3.5 and IE8.
Edit: Okay, I broke and set gender. It still shouldn't be a requirement, though.

I'll unset that requirement. I was just going down the list, and didn't really think about it when I clicked the box. Go ahead and unset it in your profile. Sorry about that.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Huh. For some reason it's impossible to un-set the gender settings. You can switch it, but not un-set it. Strange. And that's even though gender information is no longer required (yep, the asterisk's gone). Hmm...
Well, what's done is done. Even if it turns out that I can't turn it off, it's not worth getting all apoplectic about it. Just thought I'd mention it due to privacy concerns.
On the other issues, it seems I still can't see links posted in the forum. That's rather strange since the error message tells me that I should see them.

I would have addressed that issue with my last post, but I was five minutes away from class, so I had to log-off and go to class instead. Give Sol and me some time to look through the settings. I'm sure there's probably just some box checked, or radio button selected, or some permission set accidentally that causes that. If it's a problem with the forum software itself, then Sol will drop a message to the people at Icy Phoenix.
Once again, I apologize about the gender thing. m(_ _)m

I don't have photo-shop, just paint, so they kind of suck, visually. Anyone with photo-shop here who can get rid of the black backgrounds? Better yet, any aspiring developers might consider going to You must be registered to view this link and You must be registered to view this link , copying the images and cleaning them up from there. The key is that the background should be transparent, if possible (I'm not sure how that crap works, or if it's even possible), it should look nice, and the height cannot be more than 40 pixels. If you can keep it looking nice and get it down to 20 pixels, that would be awesome.
I've spent the better part of last night looking for just such images so I can tinker with the badges. I'm no graphic artist by any means, but I can make do. I'll see what I can do with the images.
Oh, and seeing as how the new site's gone live, I guess this will be my last post here. See you on the other side!

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
I think I found a solution to the link-view problem.
Quote: Turn off "Precompiled posts": ACP -> Configuration -> Icy Phoenix -> Posting & Messages -> Disable Precompiled Posts: YES, then empty the cache.
For the stretched forum page, since it only seems to appear on Webkit-based browsers (eg. Chrome, Safari), I going to need to dig deeper, perhaps install Icy Phoenix and this theme on a local machine. Thank goodness for Chrome's developer tools, though, as it makes debugging a whole lot easier.

I'm not doing shit with the cache. I'll let Sol do that. He knows that kind of stuff better than I do.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Okay, I found out where the problem was regarding the forum home page stretching issue. It seems the problem lies with the "Recent topics" scrolling marquee at the bottom of the forum home page. The thing is, to fix it you'll need to edit the template. Here's how:
Go to ACP > Styles & Templates > Styles Management. Scroll down and click "edit templates". Select the "default" directory, then scroll down and look for "index_body.tpl". Click edit.
Find:
<marquee id="recent_topics" behavior="scroll" direction="left" width="90%"
Replace with:
<marquee id="recent_topics" behavior="scroll" direction="left" width="750px"
You can probably set width to 800px, but 750px is the safer number, IMHO.
Oh, and I believe Icy Phoenix allows you to split topics. Maybe the bug reports stuff should be separated into its own thread. In fact, I should have started this in its own thread in the first place. Sorry for that.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Hmmm... not bad...
I found a siliar issue to the gender one upon registering... It requires a birthday...
I on regular occasions change my birthday (normally moth and day, not year) on forums I am a member of, just so people are not noting it or giving congradulations.
EDIT: Ok, I am logged in, I can edit messages (like this one), but every link still states the following:
"You must be registered to view this link"
So... do I have to set something in my profile?

Okay, no more forced birthdays, either.
Again, I have NO clue what's going on with the linking. You'll have to take that up with Sollord.

Those are kind of interesting. They don't look American, but . . . the oak-leaves make me think otherwise. Do you know which country they're from?

Incidentally, PC, If you'd like to make threads with your lists - however you generate them, I wouldn't mind if you did. The specific posting format for the nominations forum is just for the library. I'm certainly not going to penalize you for your own threads with your own lists. I'm thinking that maybe I should create a special forum just for that, since you tend to make new ones every once in a while.
