Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Hmmm... it also does not seem to be tracking where I've been or what viewed.
It is still noting the posts as new at top next to the new menu, but I've viewed them. Page refresh does not seem to have worked to clear them.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Hmmm... not bad...
I found a siliar issue to the gender one upon registering... It requires a birthday...
I on regular occasions change my birthday (normally moth and day, not year) on forums I am a member of, just so people are not noting it or giving congradulations.
I think you can set your birthday to private so that no one can view it. As for having it as a registration requirement, well, considering that Anifics has a NC-17 section, I figure that requiring birthday info is relatively reasonable.
EDIT: Ok, I am logged in, I can edit messages (like this one), but every link still states the following:
"You must be registered to view this link"
So... do I have to set something in my profile?
Nah, it's something the admins will have to do. As I posted earlier, the solution is the following:
Quote: Turn off "Precompiled posts": ACP > Configuration > Icy Phoenix > Posting & Messages -> Disable Precompiled Posts: YES, then empty the cache.
It should be a relatively safe procedure, but Rin prefers to let Sol do it. Speaking of which, is Sol aware of this issue?

AFAIK, the "new" post tracker only counts the amount of new posts made since you last visited the forum. Either that, or it only processes the relevant statistics after a set interval (eg. it updates only ever X number of minutes). But don't quote me on that...
Those are kind of interesting. They don't look American, but . . . the oak-leaves make me think otherwise. Do you know which country they're from?
I think they're supposed to be American, but the artist was probably taking a bit of artistic liberty with them.

Okay, I set it to what you said, and cleared the cache, and it didn't bring the forum to a crashing halt. Hraefn makes a good point, which is why I put the birthdays in the first place. I'm re-instituting it. Go in your profile settings and tell it to hide it if you don't want people seeing it.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
As a FYI... the main RSS feed for the site works, but the ATOM feed link for the site does not.
At least, it did not come up in SharpReader, and it supports the FF.NET feeds, which are also ATOM not RSS based.
Not really a big deal I suppose, unless the person is using a ATOM only reader, but it means that at least one of the three feed links in the help for the site are broke.

That's definitely a Sollord issue. I have NO CLUE how to deal with that.

 Re: Welcome to Icy Phoenix
If you can read this Topic it seems that you have successfully installed your new Forum using Icy Phoenix. You should now visit the Admin Control Panel to configure some Settings. In ACP you can set the main settings and preferences for the whole sites (styles, languages, time, forums, download, users, album, etc.) while in CMS section you can configure options regarding the site pages (define permissions, add blocks, create new pages, create new menu, etc.). You may also want to configure .htaccess and lang_main_settings.php (for each installed lang) to fine tune some other preferences, like error reporting, url rewrite, keywords, welcome message, charset and so on. Since everything seems to work fine you are now free to delete this Topic, this Forum and also the Category.
Should you need any help you can refer to You must be registered to view this link for support.
Thank you for choosing Icy Phoenix and remember to backup your db periodically.
Wee.

I have an idea where the problem is. It seems like the Atom feed is having problems with the non-breaking space entity ( ) that appears in every quote. Hmm...
EDIT: Hah! I think I finally got this stupid Atom feed issue sorted out. Like I mentioned earlier, the feed was breaking due to the non-breaking character entity. I've tried other hacks to the Atom feed template to allow it to use the entity, but they just broke the feed in other ways. So I got to thinking, if the feed won't accept , then why not just don't use it? Since the feed will accept  , which is just the same as , I decided to use that instead.
Now, the problem with this fix is that it requires editing the bbcode parser, which you can find in "includes/bbcode.php". Open up that file in a code editor and search for every instance of and replace them with  . Needless to say, backup the original bbcode.php file first before doing anything.
If you're not comfortable editing the bbcode.php file yourself, you can use the modified bbcode.php in the ZIP file attached to this post. If you want assurance that this fix works, check out the Atom feed in the demo Icy Phoenix install I set up: You must be registered to view this link
-PS- When attempting to add a new post with the information above, I got an error message that said:
Quote: You are the last poster in this topic: you cannot write new posts within 24 hours from your last post unless someone else answers in the meantime.
A limit is fine and I do think it is a good idea, however, 24 hours seems to be a bit excessive. 3-6 hours would be more appropriate, I think. The whole point of the limit would be to discourage spamming and needless thread bumping, and I think 3-6 hours would be enough for that. Spammers would be discouraged and would loose interest as soon as they discover that they're not able to post immediately, but the lessened limit would still allow valid thread bumps.
Hmm... speaking of thread bumps, I just realized that sometimes an author would need to split a story between several posts, especially if a chapter is longer than the post length limit. Perhaps it would be better to do away with the limit completely. It would mean that moderators may need to be more active, but a double post really isn't that big an offense. In the interest of community building, some leniency should be allowed.

Re: Sample News Post In Portal
Another item...
I just made a entry in the new section set up for me... It seems this forum has a upper limit on the number of links and bbcode that can be present in a post. Here are my notes from investigating that other post, and things I tried as a user to get around it.
Quote: Last Minute Edit for Mods: There seems to be a slight issue in the BBCode parse routine for the forum... At first it looked like it did not like some characters inside of the one link for Gatekeepers 1-2... So far, this is the only forum to have the issue, BYTM, TFF, AtoZ's Jovejournal, and a Offline BBCode editor (Kyrsoft BBed Offline BBcode Editor) all take that link and this whole post in stride. An attempt at correction by using one with XML filtering in it made no difference. It turns out this is not the case, it seems there is some upper amount of BBCode the forum can handle within a single post, as even removing the link does no good. Until resolved, I was going to post Text versions of the links, instead of the BBCode formatted ones I use elsewhere. However that did not fix the issue, since links are affected as well, even raw TXT ones.
EDIT: Any thoughts on increasing or fixing it?

Since you and Hraefn seem to be having the most issues, I've given you limited administrative privilages and the rank of "Staff". Have at it and adjust things to your needs. The only thing I ask is that you post in the moderator's section a general overview of what you've done.

Re: Sample News Post in Portal
Hmm... that's weird. I can't find any setting anywhere that limits the number of links or something like that. Or I could just be missing something — I'd already spent hours staring at code earlier — so I'll have a look at things again once I'm better rested. If the issue hasn't already been fixed by then, of course.
EDIT: Thanks for the temp promotion, Rin. Being able to look at the actual settings will help a lot in the troubleshooting.

Nope, not fixed, but hey, now you and PCHeintz72 can get things done in real time rather than telling me to do it for you, and having me either say, "I don't know how to do that!" or "I'll leave that up to Sollord."

Hmmm... Going from my notes on it, the image might be too big.
Your image per a properties check is 380 by 94... but per my notes:
Quote: 1d.Avatars, In the Anifics Forum (Icy Phoenix version) a maximum of 120x120 (Width x Height) pixels of image size and 15kb size.
1e.SIG's, In the Anifics Forum (Icy Phoenix version) a maximum of 300x100 (Width x Height) pixels of image size.
